The Road Beneath Our Feet
Pittsburgh – 1990
Tight Knit
Narrow
alley streets
between the stoops
two steps down
then the gutter flows
In the courtyard
out behind
stable ponies
groomed and watered
in the days of old
On the street
out front
retail storefronts
underneath the family home
& traffic passing
always passing
Still the streetlights
and phone poles
shelter
signs of progress
on the narrow path
we step along
day by day.
