Why Black and White?

By
Dan Murano

"I don't like black and white."

I've heard that more than a few times and understand how in a chaotic culture that bombards us with thousands of images, we can't ponder every image we see. "Seeing" black & white photos calls upon our imagination to 'process' them.

While a color photo rounds out basic facts such as sky, water, leaves, grass and more - a black and white photo calls upon our imagination and experience to fill those in for ourselves and in that way becomes an invitation  to step into the frame.

I find myself creating a dialogue for this couple. Your photo captures just so much of what might be. The two paper announcements add to the intrigue, and the angle of the man's neck speaks volumes. How did you capture just that moment in their exchange? Bravo!

Thank you, Jan. I was just walking by, nearly always with my camera back then.
