2025 World Pride

One of the toughest things about covering huge events like this is that it's impossible to be everywhere. The weather this year started out with heavy cloud cover and rain, but cleared up hours before the parade. That was unfortunate for a number of reasons —the extra gear I carried in case of rain, the clothing I wore, such as lighter shoes that would dry out more quickly than a more comfortable pair, and coupled with the heat, the brutally harsh sunlight. All that said, I was one of the official photographers and my only option was to make it all work and bring back some decent images.

This was the 50th Pride celebration in the nation's capital, and it was also World Pride, which meant (or would normally have meant) thousands more visitors than usual and many of them from all over the world. Sadly, that number was diminished thanks to this year's political anxieties. Despite these concerns, Pride remained a festive and highly successful event with many deeming it more important than ever to celebrate their American freedom to be who they are and live the life of their own design.
