A 2008 war protest
Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose (The more things change, the more they stay the same) is a 19th century aphorism by French writer Alphonse Karr that has certainly held true when it comes to anti-war and war-supporting counter protesters, from the Vietnam war in the 60s, Iraq in the 90s, Afghanistan and Iraq in the 2000s, and now Iran.
The protest depicted here took place in Washington, D.C. in October, 2008. It was only a brief and accidental encounter for me as my partner and I were walking through the city en route to have dinner with friends. I can't help but wonder what side of the protest these same people would be on in response to this era's war with Iran.
